9/13 Salem Speedway, Salem, IN (.555-Mi. Paved Oval; 204 Laps; 1:46:19 Race Time; 63.896 MPH Ave. Speed) -- Eighteen-year-old Shelby Howard survived a wild, wreck-infested short-track war and a late-race meeting with veteran Frank Kimmel to score his third-career victory, and second consecutive at the renowned high-banked oval. Racing for the lead 20 laps from the finish, Howard’s #64 Mack Trucks/Beck Dodge and Kimmel’s 346 Advance Auto Parts-Pork Ford, three-wide with a lapped car, tangled on the backstretch. Kimmel's machine veered hard-right into the wall while Howard's continued on. In the end, Howard beat runner-up finisher Jason Jarrett to the checkered flag by five lengths while Kimmel, who would not return to competition, went behind the pit wall with a mangled racecar. With Kimmel out of the mix, a late-race caution, inside of ten laps, prompted the extension of the race by four laps so the ARCA-mandated green-white-checker finish could be procured. When the green flag fell for a two-lap shootout to the finish, Howard pulled away to win by 1.059 seconds, while Jarrett, in the #67 Gladiator GarageWorks-Damon RV Chevrolet, replaced seventeen-year-old Justin Allgaier for second. Allgaier, in only 9th start, finished a career-best third in the #86 Hoosier Tire Midwest Chevrolet, with Brian Ross trailing in fourth in the #70 Bailey Excavating Chevrolet. Randy VanZant, in the #7 Devers Truck Bodies-Mike’s Body Shop Pontiac, finished fifth. Next Race: 9/20 South Boston Speedway, South Boston, VA (.4-Mi. While Danny O'Quinn, Jr. in the # led the most laps at 42, and Bobby Gill led at the halfway point in the race, it was Sarvis who led the last 39, and of that the most important lap of all. 16 caution flags, and a total of 107 laps under caution held speeds down for a little less than half the race, but it didn’t put a damper on Sarvis’ victory celebration. Next Race: 9/20 Winchester Speedway, Winchester , IN(250 Laps; 9/25 Delayed Broadcast; 7:00 p.m. ET; SPEED)
