Other Choices:

Don’t be scared away by the very conservative styling of the Ford Taurus; if you’re willing—or prefer—to live with a little anonymity, it might be a better choice versus many flashy but less practical sedans. However, these competing models are also very roomy, conservative models. Buick's surprisingly satisfying LaCrosse has V-6 power, a great automatic transmission, and a sophisticated interior. The Toyota Avalon's somewhat unusual styling is balanced by its vast interior room and the model's exceptional reputation for reliability. Chevrolet's Impala was greatly improved in a redesign a few years ago and can be a great bargain—plus, it's the only car in this group with a V-8 option.

I have mixed feelings of the boring parallel lines across the body side, and a tail end that looks 'refined' - then to see a front end that is more aggressive. The only car that really suits this 'utilitarian elegance' would be a Subaru which brings its engineering to the table.
