Full Review
Brand-new for 2005, the mid-size Freestyle "crossover" wagon combines attributes of both passenger sedans and sport-utility vehicles. Exterior styling is something of a combination of Explorer and Escape styling cues with a shorter roofline. Essentially replacing the...

Freestyle 2005 costomer review.
Ok its 2007 August and I just bought a used 2005 Freestyle for my family of 4 kids my wife and I. Being a Ford guy I started looking their. It was time to get rif of the 96 Sable wagon as the kids where now to big for it. It has served us well with 127,00 miles and like all the Fords I bought over my 50 years of age put high milage on car, full size vans,Suvs and never had any serious or expensive work needed as I usually keep them 10 to 12 years. I always buy used when I do and the Freestyle is no different. I found a SEL with leather in mint condition with 22k on her at a Honda dealership. Who seemed eager to move it as they just got it in on a trade. The price was 2k under what I was shopping for so I went for it eagerly.13,300 and they gave me 2,000 for the 12 year old Sable which has been garage kept and looked betetr than most cars after 5 years.
Perfect for a big family.I took a solo long trip of about 500 miles to see if it promised all its written to promis in reviews.
Well with Gas being close to 4.00 MPG is 1st in my list to see what if I drive conseritive can get. Thanks to the computer that tells you home many MPG you average per trip I reset it and started to drive.I turned off the traction controll for the AWD its nice out no need to use it as it will shift the AWD to front wheel. Well amazingly so a smooth solid ride as all reviews claim. I found the power very fine for it as some feel its underpowered. We trip down to Cape May on Garden State parkway going 60- MPG on crusie controll got me 29 mpg. They claim 27 with FWD so better than average. Well I averaged the same MPG coming home. So I am a happy man. Getting off the highway and heading home to the Pocono Mountians I reset the computer for a mix of country highway, hills and mountian pulls that go up a few miles. I drove the speed limit and as always do not push the motor just to get fast. Conservitive driving for the best MPG. I was very happy to see an average of 24 again with AWD traction controll off. I am told with it on uses 3 MPG less which is fine in bad weather, stupid on nice days to use anyway.
So in closing if you looking for a good value to fit the family and haul materials this is a good solid Crossover for the money. They now call it for 2008 Taurus X same car bigger motor. I dont know what that will get you MPG BUT IT WILL COST CLOSE TO 30 K. I shopped the net for Freestyles with 28 to 30k miles certified Ford used Freestyle can be had in SEL or Limited (which I would suggest since the loaded up ones used are really worth getting verse new) can be yours between 14 and 15k these puppys sold for about 28k new. Hope this helps those looking for a save 5 start good milage crossover. Read the reviews to get all the other points of view. My favorite part is 28 plus MPG Highway for a large AWD crossover sweet deal!!!!!!!

I bought a 2005 limited in Sept 08, for 12500, it had 36k miles. LOVE IT. I average 23mpg city, and 28 highway. It's fwd, dont need the awd here in the south. My 16 year old son loves it. He is 5ft 11in, 220lbs and says the third row sits very comfortable. To give you an idea for cargo room, we moved a twin size bed, mattress, box springs and frame with any problem or need to squeeze in. The only bad thing I have to say about it, is that the driver side seat heater is out. Am looking for a way to fix that myself. Here lately I have seen more of them on the road, I imagine that the 36mos leases are finishing up.. Everyone who has ridden in it or driven it loves it.
I love how I feel when I drive it, that I am sitting up higher. My mom has a Toyota Sequoyah, and sister has a Dodge Durgango. All three vehicles seat 7, they need the 4wd due to what their husbands wanted! Of course they don't get the mpg's that I get. But when the family all gets together, we can all pile in without having to take 5 cars!
I think that Ford did a great diserivce to their business by discontinuing it! CVTs have been around, the 2009 Nissan Maxima has one. Here is a link about CVT.

As long as you are not towing HEAVY, or 4 wheeling this is the best mover I found!
My son has laid claim to the Freestyle when I am ready for a newer car!
