Other Choices:

The Journey has many competitors in the crossover segment, including the substantially heavier Ford Edge, Hyundai Santa Fe, and Chevrolet Equinox. TheCarConnection.com’s favorite vehicles in the class include the new Honda CR-V, which got a controversial new look in its recent restyling; the Toyota RAV4, which now offers a third-row rear seat; and the Saturn Vue, a far more handsome vehicle than it used to be, and one coming in a hybrid version this fall. Subaru’s Forester is also a worth a look, particularly in its base trim.

i have an 09 journey R/T with the chrome appearance package, leather interior and sunroof. as a mom of 3 kids in carseats, i love this vehicle! it has tons of storage room, it is powerful, and it has next to NO road noise!! the only downside is that we have not been getting the mileage that it said on the sticker...but thats not a big deal.
    highly recommend this vehicle!

  4. Good

    By Doug | Posted: Nov 30th 2008, 01:52:28 AM

Just bought a 2009. So far I don't understand the negative points of this vehicle. Not eye-catching? My black one looks very sharp. Of course I could have bought an Element...but I would be out of my element. The dash on mine looks great and is very functional. Nothing square on mine. Interior is nice too...oh I just remembered it's not a Mercedes!!!! Honestly, this car is extremely quiet. The ride w/19 inch wheels is very smooth too. Yep, the 3rd row seat is small, but it's NOT a minivan. Anyhow, the price seemed reasonable too.

I am freaking out and just want an honest opinion. I am very close to signing the deal for a new dodge journey and keep reading good things and bad things. It is my first NEW car and I want to make the right choice.
Please give honest feedback if you can.

  6. Worst car I ever owned

    By John | Posted: Feb 10th 2009, 09:50:07 PM

The journey appears like a nice car when you buy it, but you will begin experiencing problems at 5-10k miles. Engine knocking is regular. I have had several problems with the electical system including no interior lights twice, 1X the battery died, regular brake & engine light warnings, and, beleive it or not, complete loss of speedometer for prolonged periods of time. All of which the dealer continually tells me it cannot reproduce when I go there, which has been about 5x in the first year so far. I have given up even complaining and am just waiting for the lease to end so I never have to drive a dodge again. Buy this vehicle at your own risk- you've been warned.

I am having problems with traction on snow. My kids had to push the car through an intersection last week. Any one else having this experience?

  8. Bad in Snow Too!

    By Lisa | Posted: Feb 26th 2009, 06:41:29 AM

I agree with the other comments with performance in the snow! I have never had issue with driving in bad weather or snow until I owned this vehicle - now I'm afraid to drive in the snow because I fear I won't make it! I spin out and I'm not even on a hill! This is very dissappointing!

  11. simple, but nice!

By Ashley Gibbons | Posted: Apr 13th 2009, 08:28:34 PM

i just traded in my 02 explorer for a journey on saturday. i've driven it about 80 miles and just now used up a 1/4 tank of gas. great on gas! we live in the south so snow/bad weather wont be a huge issue. i love all the storage and trunk space, but i agree on the keyless. it should have come with a remote. what car doesn't these days? now we have to go to best buy and have one installed.

  12. A Journey we wish we did not take!

    By Tim | Posted: Apr 17th 2009, 02:47:21 PM

We bought a Journey less than one year ago. In the first three months of ownership the dealership had it in the shop for 1 month. It has had a few return visits. It is now having recalls for parts, the brake lights come on for no reason, it has an interior rattle, gas mileage is not what the sticker said it should be and now at 15K miles the dealership is telling us it needs new brakes. My Chevy truck has 140K miles on it and it has the original front brakes! Beware of the Journey unless you like visits to a dealership. We bought the extented warrenty through Chrysler for 1500.00 because the car was cheap. Between the repairs and car rentals it covers, it has paid for itself. I would not advise a purchase of this car. Spend the money and get a Chevy, Ford or foreign job. This Chrysler product is not worth the money and time wasted on it.

  13. Happy Camper

By Bob Timmons | Posted: May 10th 2009, 10:46:31 AM

I bought my Journey SXT 9 months ago and have found it to be a wonderful vehicle. I haven't had a single problem with it and it do not expect any. Gas mileage with the V6 is a bit lower than I anticipated, but for its size and weight it is right in line with the other vehicles I've owned. This looks to be the offspring of the Mercedes/Chrysler marriage of a few years back. Even the ignition key is the same as the one for my 99 Mercedes C230. Great product, I'd highly suggest giving one a drive!

I bought my Journey in March of 08 (I have the AWD SXT model) and it is the best vehicle I ever had. The ride is great, even in the winter, the only trouble I had was getting winter tires. I have never had this much confidence in a vehicle before, it looks great and I recommend it to anyone. ...

My 09 Journey has been in the shop off and on for the last few weeks. Engine and electric lights come, drives terribly and stalls. They have tried several things to fix and can not figure it out. It is a complete lemon. It is a fleet vehicle so I did not purchase directly, but I will never buy another car from this company ever again.

  17. By cmpteki | Posted: Jun 9th 2009, 07:32:28 PM

I've had an '09 Journey SXT AWD for 3 months now; driven ~7k, and had no issues. AWD is excellent, road noise almost non existent, rear options keep the kids entertained, mileage is same or better than my v6 family sedan.
I too am curious as to what the camera looking gadget between the interior lights is...remote sensor for rear dvd perhaps? I haven't experimented.
I noticed the slight diff noise from outside the vehicle when using remote start (as reported by another on this list) and assume it has to do with the remote start timer. The noise is not there unless the remote start is used. Either way it doesn't concern me in the least and I had nothing but great experiences with our Journey.
