2011 BMW 5-Series: Preview and First Photos

2011 BMW 5-Series: Preview and First Photos

November 23rd, 2009 This afternoon, the 2011 BMW 5-Series sedan gets its long-awaited world premiere. Part of the new generation of BMW large cars, the new sedan is closely linked to the 2010 BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo we reviewed for you in September. BMW also confesses the new 5er shares many of its mechanical systems with the big 7-Series sedan, which was introduced as a 2009 model earlier this year. The new 5-Series sedan comes to the U.S. with a pair of engines -- either BMW's brilliant twin-turbo, 400-hp V-8 or the same single-turbo in-line six that makes 300 hp in the Gran Turismo and in this application. It's rear-wheel drive, but the new 5-Series also will gain all-wheel-drive versions next year, as well as a normally aspirated, 240-hp six-cylinder model. With new styling that sheds the overly complex surfaces and shapes of the Bangle era, the new 5-Series could be as improved as the 7-Series before it. We'll let you be the judge: we're posting photos as quickly as BMW puts them into the information cloud. 1. this car can cause some serious pain in the pocket, but if you have the money that interior seems like it alone is worth the expense.

  2. NICE! Finally, a BMW sedan that doesn't make me crinkle my nose & forehead like I just got a whiff of a bad smell.
So they've emerged emerged from the long, misshapen years of Bangliciousness. Praise the heavens.
Bring on the ActiveHybrid 5 and I'm so there.

  3. assume this one is gonna leave a mark on the wallet. however, always has been a great car and the description and photos suggest it's only getting better

  4. Very nice and I love the reference to shedding the complexities of the surface and shapes.

  5. I actually really like the look of this car. Bangle's designs had their time, but they are certainly not timeless. Good to see BMW move on.

  6. The exterior is HOT, but it's a weird interior. Hoping that the upward tilt to the dash is just photo angle.

  7. Germans know how to make cars- interior and exterior- charlie bangle is the man

  8. Exterior is BORING - expecting more; this looks like a generic woman's car (think lexus)... I like the E60 better. The interior is much better however.

  9. This 5er is now as big as the old 7er. this allows the new 7er becomes the CS, and all the smaller models to grow in size and move up-market. The 3 is as big as the 5 was, the 1 as big as the 3.

  10. This one has "luxury" written all over it! wish I could afford it...
