Volvo’s XC70 is basically a higher-riding/more rugged-looking version of the automaker’s V70 wagon. For 2007, this model receives newly standard 16-inch “Xenia” alloy wheels, available “watch dial” instrument cluster and optional dual-screen rear seat entertainment system. As with all 2007 Volvo models, the XC70 also gets standard electronic stability control, as well as a tire pressure monitoring system and the new-design outside rearview mirrors with built-in turn indicators.

Unlike the V70, which can be ordered in front-drive form, all XC90s come standard with Volvo’s full-time Haldex all-wheel-drive system. The XC90 also has more ground clearance than its V70 cousin and so can handle adverse weather conditions with greater confidence. The standard engine in the XC90 is a turbocharged, 2.5-liter in-line-five-cylinder engine that generates 208 horsepower and works through a six-speed Geartronic automatic transmission with manual/sport shift capability. The driver-adjustable “Four-C” chassis that allows the driver to switch from “comfort” to “sport” ride and handling settings remains an available option.
