Volvo’s compact V50 is the station wagon version of the S40, and is likewise based on the Mazda3 platform. Like its cousin, it comes powered by either a 168-horsepower, 2.4-liter five-cylinder engine or (in T5 form) a 218-horsepower, turbocharged/intercooled five-cylinder engine. The V50 receives the same updates for 2007 as its sedan stablemate — including minor interior layout/trim tweaks, available Sirius satellite radio and standard stability control across all trim lines. The wagon layout offers buyers a bit more interior space and versatility for things like cargo (or the family dog) with the same fun-to-drive qualities and excellent safety record of the S40 sedan. The V50 sedan can also tow 2000 pounds and can handle small trailers if you need that capability.
