A major redesign for this once-basic (and even primitive) SUV transforms it into a sleek-looking, fully modern mid-sized crossover with available seven-passenger seating and an available all-wheel-drive system (front-wheel drive is standard). In addition to the handsome new exterior, the ’07 XL7 boasts a larger, more powerful 3.6-liter, 252-horsepower V-6 engine teamed up with a new five-speed automatic with manual shift capability. Suzuki claims the XL7 can accelerate from 0-60 in less than eight seconds — a big improvement over the previous model. Ride and handling are much-improved as well thanks to the unibody chassis and car-type four wheel independent suspension using MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link rear. The ’07 XL7 is available in base, Luxury and Limited trim levels, with standard seven-passenger seating on the Limited. AWD is optional on all models. All trim lines get traction and stability control as well as a rollover-sensing system. A Nivomat load-leveling rear suspension is available, as is DVD-based navigation and remote start feature.
