Legacy

Subaru's mid-size Legacy sedan and wagon - including its SUV-flavored Outback models are stylish and capable, but costly compared to the competition. Base versions come powered by a 168-horsepower, horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine, while GT models offer a 2.5-liter four-cylinder powerplant that produces 250-horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. In addition to its standard five-speed-manual gearbox, the GT is available with a new five-speed-automatic transmission that incorporates a manual shifting provision that can be operated either via the floor-mounted gearshift or by using buttons on the MOMO-designed sport steering wheel. Side-impact and side-curtain airbags are standard on all models. The Outback rides on a higher ground clearance, and comes trimmed with SUV-styled body cladding and styling cues. Outback Sedans feature a horizontally opposed 250-horsepower, six-cylinder engine, while wagons are offered with a variety of powerplants, including the aforementioned six-cylinder, a 250-horsepower 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, and a normally aspirated 168-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder version. The turbocharged engine is also available in the XT model, which also offers the five-speed automatic gearbox. Standard equipment includes four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and front-side and side-curtain airbags. A long list of options is highlighted by various cargo- and sport-equipment-transport aids, including a kayak carrier, two separate bike racks, and a dog guard for wagon versions.
