9-5
The aging Saab 9-5 receives a tighter front end and more horsepower for the 2006 model year, and a reduction in price as well. The revamped front end, Saab says, is drawn from the recent 9-X concept car. All versions, including the base 9-5 2.3T, have a 260-horsepower turbo four as standard equipment, up 10 hp from last year's similar engine. A five-speed manual gearbox is standard, too, while a five-speed automatic is an option. Other stock gear includes a sunroof, leather seats, and 17-inch alloy wheels; a six-CD, in-dash changer also comes standard in the new 9-5, along with XM satellite radio and an input jack for MP3 players. A five-speed automatic, satellite navigation, and OnStar are options. The new version starts at $34,820 in four-door form, will also come as a five-door wagon ($35,820).
