Xterra
The second-generation of Nissan's back-to-basics mid-size Xterra sport-utility vehicle debuted at mid-year 2005 with added interior room, freshened styling, more under-hood power, and added value. It shares platforms SUV and comes powered by a 250-horsepower, 4.0-liter V-6 engine that's mated to either a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. Rear- and part-time four-wheel-drive versions continue in the line, while four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Brake Assist are standard, with 4WD models further including an Active Brake Limited Slip function. Nissan's Vehicle Dynamic Control system is optional, along with a number of off-road-oriented enhancements. As befits its rugged character, a first-aid kit is included. A new, larger interior includes an adjustable channel system in the cargo hold for securing bike racks and sports gear, and a total of ten utility hooks. A 60/40-split folding rear seat, folding front passenger seat, double-deck glovebox, and large center console add to the vehicle's overall utility. Available options include front-side and side curtain airbags with rollover protection, a premium Rockford-Fosgate audio system, and a choice of either XM or Sirius satellite radio. For 2006, a new entry-level X model is added to the line, and a glove box lock, lamp, and damper are included across the line. The formerly optional Power Package becomes standard on S models, and Charcoal and Midnight Blue are offered as new interior and exterior colors, respectively.
