The front-drive Versa is a new model for Nissan and slots in the lineup as the automaker's least expensive passenger car. Available in either sedan or five-door hatchback body styles and in base S and sport-themed SL trim lines, the compact-sized Versa come standard with a 1.8-liter, 122-horsepower four-cylinder engine and three available transmission choices: standard six-speed manual, optional four-speed automatic or Nissan's XTronic CVT. Equipped with the CVT, Nissan says the Versa's good for 36 mpg on the highway; it’s 34 mpg with the other two transmissions. The car's name refers to its versatile interior, which offers more room for passengers than typical compact economy cars. End to end, the Versa's passenger cabin is about six feet-long, large for a vehicle in this class, and its front seats are about the same size as the mid-size Maxima's. This means it's viable as a primary car, even a family car and not merely an economical commuter car. Front seat side impact airbags are standard with curtain airbags available optionally. A premium Rockford Fosgate stereo system with satellite radio can also be ordered, along with Bluetooth wireless communication technology and Nissan's Intelligent Key system.
