Pathfinder

A larger and restyled Nissan Pathfinder debuted last year that's wrapped in bold exterior styling with cues borrowed from the larger Armada sport-utility vehicle. It rides on a modified version of the same tubular ladder-frame platform as the Armada SUV and Titan pickup. A 250-horsepower, 4.0-liter V-6 engine is fitted to a five-speed automatic transmission and delivers ample acceleration. Rear-wheel-drive is standard, and a choice of either a part-time or an auto-engaging full-time 4WD system is available. Four-wheel disc anti-lock power brakes with Active Brake Limited Slip and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, along with Vehicle Dynamic Control are offered for added on-road stability, and an optional off-road system maximizes grip over rugged terrain. The Pathfinder includes a four-wheel independent double-wishbone suspension for crisp handling and good ride comfort. Inside, split-fold second- and third-row seats and a fold-down front passenger seat provide 64 different seating and cargo configurations. Front-side and side-curtain airbags with rollover protection, a navigation system, rear-seat DVD player, and a power sunroof are optional.  Changes for 2006 include newly available Sirius or XM satellite radio, a new exterior color, Majestic Blue, available leather seats on SE models, Desert Leather newly offered on Off-Road versions, and a six-disc CD changer added to the SE Comfort Package.

Full-size ruggedness, sized down for reality.
