A redesigned Nissan Pathfinder arrives for 2005 that's larger in virtually every dimension than before and comes wrapped in bold exterior styling with cues borrowed from the larger Armada sport utility vehicle. Like the also-new Xterra, it rides on a modified version of the same tubular ladder-frame platform as the Armada SUV and Titan pickup. A 250-horsepower 4.0-liter V-6 engine is fitted to a five-speed automatic transmission and delivers ample acceleration. Rear-wheel-drive is standard, and a choice of either a part-time or auto-engaging full-time 4WD system is available. Vehicle Dynamic Control is offered for added on-road stability and an optional off-road system maximizes grip over rugged terrain. Four-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with electronic brake force distribution and brake assist are standard, and the Pathfinder includes a new four-wheel independent double-wishbone suspension, Inside, split-fold second- and third-row seats and a fold-down front passenger seat are said to provide 64 different seating and cargo configurations. Front-side and side-curtain airbags with rollover protection are among the vehicle's many options.

Full-size ruggedness, sized down for reality.
