Offering a distinct styling departure from the typical two-box SUV designs, the Murano is a "crossover" sport utility vehicle that shares platforms and components with the more-luxurious Infiniti FX35, though the Nissan's handling isn't as precise. Offered in a choice of front- or all-wheel drive, the Murano is powered by a 245-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 engine that's fitted to a continuously variable automatic transmission that eschews traditional gears for an efficient system of belts and pulleys. While there are no gears to shift, the CVT nevertheless includes a manual-shift mode. Four-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes with brake assist and brakeforce distribution are standard, and an available Dynamic Control Package includes Vehicle Dynamic Control, traction control and a tire pressure monitor. A large lockable center console and assorted storage areas are included in the Murano's comfortable cabin. Adjustable brake and accelerator pedals and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system are optional.
