Altima

The roomy and stylish mid-size Altima sedan continues with few changes for 2006. It's powered in its base form by a 175-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, while an available 3.5-liter V-6 generates a quicker 250 horses. A five-speed manual is standard, and both four- and five-speed automatic transmissions are optional. The Altima rides on a four-wheel independent suspension for good ride and handling qualities; anti-lock brakes and traction control are optional. A sporty SE-R version includes the V-6 engine, a revised suspension, 18-inch wheels and tires and more aggressive styling cues, along with additional amenities. Available options include front-side airbags, leather upholstery, a power driver's seat, power sunroof, a Bose audio system, and either XM or Sirius satellite radio. A hybrid gas/electric-powered version will be added to the line later in 2006.
