Major updates for this five- or seven-passenger crossover include a newly standard 220-horsepower 3.0-liter V-6 with Mitsubishi's MIVEC variable valve timing tied to a six-speed Sportronic automatic transmission that can be fitted with F1-style paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The Outlander's new V-6 qualifies as a Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV), in addition to being substantially more potent than the four-cylinder engine used in previous Outlanders. Base ES, mid-level LS and sport-luxury XLS trim lines are available. The XLS comes standard with 18-inch rims and Mitsubishi's Active Skid and Traction Control (ASTC) system; all-wheel drive is offered on LS and XLS trims. The Outlander's second-row seats feature "fold and tumble" capability and have a 3.15-inch slide range to maximize the use of interior space. The optional third-row seating (standard on XLS) folds flat, opening up 72.6 cubic feet of storage capacity. An interesting Outlander feature is the "flap-fold" tailgate section, which can serve as a seat for tailgate parties and can accommodate as much as 440 pounds. All '07 Outlanders get side-impact airbags and curtain airbags for the first two rows as well as anti-lock brakes with Electronic BrakeForce Distribution (EBD) and a new tire pressure monitoring system. Keyless ignition, a navigation system and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system with a 9-inch LCD screen are available
