Eclipse

A new Eclipse sport coupe debuts for 2006, offering vivid, new aerodynamic styling with a wide rear fender treatment and high rear deck. The base GS model is powered by an updated version of the previous generation's 2.4-liter in-line four engine that gets a boost in power up to a generous 162 horsepower. Meanwhile the GT packs a new 3.8-liter V-6 that generates a substantial 263 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Both engines feature variable valve timing and electronic lift control. The in-line four can be mated to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission with Sportronic manual-shift mode, while the GT offers the choice of a six-speed manual or five-speed Sportronic automatic. Improved handling comes from a wider track and a more rigid unibody chassis, with MacPherson struts up front and a multilink suspension with coil springs at the rear, stabilizer bars at both ends, and anti-lock disc brakes all around. Standard equipment includes side and side-curtain airbags, with items like a power sunroof, heated leather seats and side-view windows, automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, aluminum pedals, and a premium 650-watt Rockford Fosgate audio system optional.

More of the tame.
