Like its Ford Explorer sibling, the mid-size Mountaineer was redesigned in 2006 with a revised chassis and updated front and rear suspension. For the new model year, all Mariners get the Safety Canopy side/curtain airbag system, and a heated windshield is available across the model lineup. There's also a new rear-seat DVD entertainment system with larger, eight-inch screen. Otherwise, the '07 Mountaineer is basically a carryover from '06. A 210-horsepower, 4.0-liter V-6 engine remains the standard powerplant, with the optional engine being a 4.6-liter, 292 horsepower V-8. The V-6 comes mated to a five-speed automatic transmission, while the V-8 offers a six-speed automatic. Available in rear- or all-wheel-drive versions, with either five- or seven-passenger seating, the Mountaineer comes with four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes, front-side airbags, and Ford's AdvanceTrac stability enhancement system with Roll Stability Control. A DVD navigation system, Sirius satellite radio, heated leather seats, a moonroof, and power adjustable brake/accelerator pedals continue to be optional.
