Mercedes-Benz may have decided that the G-Class is just about perfect in its current craggyness. For its 2007 update, the über-ute gets only minor exterior mods to go with a revamped interior.

 

On the outside, new LED-look taillamps are the extent of the changes. But inside, the changes are more substantial.

 

The G-Class, which Benz reminds us has been in production for more than 25 years, wears a new “high-grade” instrument cluster after the revamp. A new center console, air-conditioning control panel, and a new steering wheel give it a “fresh appeal,” according to a release. The steering wheel gets multi-function controls, and the center console helps to make the controls more foolproof, the official newser asserts.

 

Standard equipment on the gas-powered versions of the G-Class, the G500 and G55, includes a leather-and-wood steering wheel and the Benz COMAND system with DVD navigation. The G320 diesel version makes the navigation system an option, and has only leather on the wheel.

 

New options include a rear-view camera; tire pressure monitors; a sport exhaust; and Cognac leather upholstery (presumably non-alcoholic).

 

Deliveries of the new edition begin in April.
