RX-8

The sporty and curvaceous four-passenger RX-8 is designed with dual rear-hinged half doors that permit easy entry into and egress from the backseat, but with the overall look of a coupe. Mazda's Renesis rotary engine generates 250 horsepower when fitted to the standard six-speed-manual gearbox, and 210 horsepower when the available four-speed-automatic transmission is chosen. The RX-8 includes four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes and a limited-slip rear axle, while an optional Dynamic Stability Control senses skidding and applies the brakes and controls engine torque as needed to help prevent a loss of control. Standard features include a CD stereo, limited-slip differential, power locks, mirrors, and windows, keyless entry, a leather wrapped tilt steering wheel, tire pressure monitor, and alloy wheels. High-intensity xenon headlamps, a navigation system, Bose audio array, and a rear wing spoiler are optional. A new SHINKA Special Edition features upgraded suspension components, a parchment-colored leather interior, upgraded 18-inch alloy wheels, and specific trim items. An updated version will launch in early 2006.

Rotary fans can rejoice: the Wankel's back.
