Maserati is not exactly a mainstream brand, but the Victory Edition has a truly limited production run, even by that Italian automaker’s standards. Intended to celebrate Maserati’s successful return to racing, the deep blue coupe starts out as a GranSport, but with its special trim and performance package, only 50 will be shipped to U.S. showrooms.

The coupe is powered by a 4.2-liter V-8 making 400 horsepower. Though spokesman Jeff Ehoodin asserted “a sports car is not about statistics,” there’s plenty to boast about with the Victory Edition’s numbers. Top speed is rated at 180 mph, while Maserati claims 0-60 times of 4.75 seconds.

By comparison, demand for the brand’s four-door flagship, the Quattroporte, has positively landed it in the mainstream. Hoping to further broaden the appeal of the stylish sedan, Maserati is launching a new six-speed automatic, which will be offered alongside the electronically-shifted manual transmission. While the Duo Select gearbox appeals to those seeking maximum performance, Maserati officials acknowledged they needed something more conventional — read more comfortable and easier to drive. The Quattroporte will now be offered in six different models, ranging from the chauffeur-oriented Executive Edition to the top-line Sport GT performance package.
