Coupe

The exotic four-passenger Maserati Coupe backs up its racy styling with a 390-horsepower, 4.2-liter V-8 engine that can be fitted to either an electrically operated Cambiocorsa sequential-manual-shift gearbox or a conventional six-speed-manual transmission. Anyone who's ever driven a manual transmission in San Francisco will appreciate the sequential shifter's "hill holder" function that automatically engages the brakes for a few seconds on an incline as the driver moves his or her foot from the brake to the gas pedal. A new GranSport version is introduced for 2005 that includes a higher-output 400-horsepower version of the 4.2-liter V-8, a lowered stance and larger 19-inch wheels and performance tires.

The trident returns to America after a decade-long absence.
