still basically a Land Cruiser in fancy dress

At heart, the 2008 Lexus LX 570 remains an equipment-laden version of the Toyota Land Cruiser, sharing its current 112-inch wheelbase, but now 4 inches longer, at 196.5 inches in overall length.

While it isn’t ugly, the 2008 Lexus LX 570 isn't particularly distinctive, either. In fact, Cars.com says this Lexus 2008 model "resists attempts to make it truly distinctive," mainly due to "its body-on-frame construction." They add, “Something about the shape of the taillights and their chrome surrounds recalls Lincolns.” Kelley Blue Book notes that the company wanted the Lexus 2008 LX 570 "to have a more muscular appearance than the LX 470, so [it] went with the L-finesse design theme, which includes a wider stance and more subtle design lines." For all that, Motor Trend says this 2008 Lexus is "still basically a Land Cruiser in fancy dress," though ForbesAutos likes it enough to write, “its exterior styling is statesman-like, exuding security and stability from every angle.”

Inside, the 2008 Lexus LX 570 has "broken no new ground in terms of materials or design," according to Cars.com; ConsumerGuide says this 2008 Lexus SUV's "cabin decor lacks the richness of other premium rivals, looking more 'upscale Toyota' than true elite class." Here, Edmunds parts ways with the others, describing the Lexus 2008 LX 570's interior as "richly appointed, with exceptional leather and wood trim crafted of Bubinga, an African rosewood often used in private jets and high-end musical instruments."

Conclusion

The 2008 Lexus LX 570 lacks the visual excitement of the Land Rover Range Rover.

Other Choices:

Even though the 2008 Lexus LX 570 is heavily based on the Toyota Land Cruiser--which costs $10,000 less--LX 570 buyers are far less likely to actually take their vehicles off-road. But it's there when you need it--more so than for the Mercedes GL-Class and Cadillac Escalade. Rather, LX 570 buyers are looking for a flashy appearance and street cred; as far as that goes, the Range Rover and Escalade have it beat. Inside, however, the LX 570 runs with the best, bearing plenty of attractive, plush materials and standout features. The QX56, which is soon to be discontinued, is a little more trucklike and doesn't have the refinement of the others. For towing, the LX remains one of the top choices, with its tremendously torquey engine, good highway stability, and tow rating of up to 8,500 pounds. For those who can't stomach the LX 570's gas-guzzling ways, there's also the diesel Mercedes-Benz GL320 CDI, which gets an impressive (for the class) 18 mpg city, 24 mpg highway.
