The Lexus flagship sedan remains stately and stylish, with a coddling cabin, a smooth ride, and capable cornering abilities. A 290-horsepower, 4.3-liter V-8 engine resides under the hood that's mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with a manual-shift mode and shift-logic control. As always, the LS comes with a full assortment of advanced features. A Pre-Collision System anticipates when a crash is imminent and reacts accordingly, even applying the brakes more strongly if the driver cannot react quickly enough. Adaptive headlamps can pivot slightly in conjunction with steering movement to help better illuminate the road ahead through the curves. What's more, a Smart Access system allows the driver to unlock and start the vehicle without having to physically use a key. Also included are four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes, front side, knee, and side-curtain airbags, traction control, and Vehicle Skid Control. Among the car's ultra-luxury options are laser-guided cruise control, a voice-activated navigation system, Mark Levinson premium audio array, heated and cooled seats and power door closers. A limited-production Pebble Beach Edition features Tigereye exterior paint and a camel-leather interior, and is adorned with unique Pebble Beach emblems; it's also offered with a specially commissioned Lexus Tigereye luggage set. A hybrid gas/electric-powered version will be added to the line in late 2006.
