Having received a number of significant upgrades last year as part of a mid-cycle revision, Lexus' flagship sedan remains relatively unchanged for 2005. Its 290-horsepower 4.3-liter V-8 engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with a manual-shift mode and shift-logic control. As always, the LS430 performs flawlessly, is amply comfortable and offers a full assortment of high-tech features. For example, the car's so-called "Pre-Collision System" is configured to determine when a crash is imminent and automatically retract the front passengers' seatbelts and activate the car's brake-assist system to maximize its deceleration abilities. Adaptive headlamps can pivot slightly in conjunction with steering movement to help better illuminate the road ahead through the curves. A "Smart Access" system allows the driver to unlock and start the vehicle without having to physically use a key. Also included are front knee airbags, a tire-pressure monitoring system and assorted amenities. Among the car's ultra-luxury options are laser-guided cruise control, a voice-activated navigation system, Mark Levinson premium audio array, heated and cooled seats, and power door closers.

One idea, done very well for a long time.
