In most opinions gathered by TheCarConnection.com, the 2008 Lexus GS 450h provides superior levels of safety for its occupants; while no testing was done by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gives it top ratings in front and side impact tests.

Cars.com notes this 2008 Lexus has "a full complement of electronic safety features [that] centers around the [2008] Lexus' Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management system." Those who purchase this particular Lexus 2008 vehicle will find "VDIM coordinates the electronic stability system, antilock brakes, electronic steering and electronic brakes to aid driver control" as standard equipment.

Optional Lexus 2008 safety equipment includes "adaptive cruise control [that] can sense impending collisions and alert the driver," and "an adaptive front lighting system swivels the headlights several degrees during turns to better illuminate corners."

Kelley Blue Book reports that installed on the 2008 Lexus GS 450h are "xenon HID headlamps and quick-responding LED taillamps [that] make it easier for you to see and be seen, day or night."

This Lexus 2008 model has some minor visibility issues, according to ForbesAutos: a "high dashboard and windowsills hamper...outward visibility." On the other hand, Kelley Blue Book remarks that a "well-proportioned glass area provides good outward visibility."

Conclusion

The 2008 Lexus GS 450h should allow its occupants to feel safe and secure while traveling.

Other Choices:

The 2008 Lexus GS 450h is a class in itself. There are no competitors that are hybrids and emphasize performance; the Honda Accord Hybrid was the only other one, but it was discontinued after 2007. The Camry Hybrid and Altima Hybrid are the closest competitors, perhaps, but they're both about half the price of the GS 450h and don't provide anything close to the driving experience. Each of them, however, returns mileage in the 30s. The Mercedes E320 Bluetec might also be considered a competitor by some accounts; it has an attractive, luxurious interior that's roomier than that of the GS, and its torquey turbodiesel engine provides surprisingly good acceleration and conservative EPA highway estimates of 23 mpg city, 32 mpg highway.
