Jeep's first seven-passenger SUV was introduced in 2006 as a new model, so changes for the 2007 run are minimal. A newOverland version is available and comes standard with the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8, 18-inch wheels and specific interior and exterior trim. The mid-level 4.7-liter V-8 is now available with E85/flex-fuel capability and there's an available power liftgate and rearview camera. 

With its sharp-edged lines, upright windshield and bold front grille, the Commander pays homage to classic Jeep styling. Its stepped roofline facilitates raised "theater" seating to provide better outward visibility for all seven riders, and both the second and third rows can fold flat for cargo-carrying flexibility. The 3.7-liter, 210-horsepower V-6 carries over as the standard engine in the base Sport model, with the 235-horsepower 4.7-liter V-8 in the Limited. The top-of-the-line HEMI V-8 pumps out 330 horsepower and features standard cylinder-deactivation "displacement on demand" function to help boost fuel economy. All engines come mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox. Three full-time four-wheel-drive systems are offered in addition to standard-issue rear-wheel drive. The top Quadra-Drive II system utilizes electronic limited-slip differentials to afford maximum trail-forging abilities. Standard items include anti-lock brakes, traction control and Electronic Roll Mitigation that can selectively deploy the vehicle's side-curtain airbags in a crash based on input from multiple sensors. A DVD video system, Boston Acoustics stereo, and dual "Command View" skylights over the second row of seats are optional.
