S-Type

The mid-size S-Type sedan received a number of upgrades last year, including slightly revised interior and exterior styling touches. Its frame was reinforced to give the vehicle greater structural rigidity and, in turn, improved ride and handling characteristics with added overall refinement. The vehicle remains mainly status quo for 2006, save for a new chrome grille insert and an updated standard braking system. The base S-Type includes a 235-horsepower V-6 engine and the choice of either a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. A 300-horsepower 4.2-liter V-8 is also available, while a sporty R model gets a 400-horsepower version of the 4.2-liter powerplant, the six-speed automatic, Brembo four-wheel disc brakes, and Jaguar's Computer Active Technology Suspension system. The base model includes front side and side curtain airbags, traction control, and Dynamic Stability Control. Items like adaptive cruise control, heated seats, and xenon headlamps are optional; Bluetooth wireless phone technology is newly offered for 2006, as is Sirius satellite radio and new 17-inch alloy wheels. What's more, Indigo replaces Pacific Blue, and Winter Gold replaces Topaz on the exterior color palette.
