The Santa Fe mid-size crossover is new for 2007 and significantly larger than its predecessor—7 inches longer, one inch wider and almost two inches taller, with a 2.9-inch wider track. It also offers available third-row/seven-passenger seating and two available V-6 engines. The standard 2.7-liter V-6 (GLS models) is rated at 185 horsepower while the step-up 3.3-liter V-6 (SE and Limited models) develops 242 horsepower. The new V-6 replaces last year's 3.5-liter V-6 and produces 40 horsepower more than the outgoing engine with better economy and lower emissions. A five-speed manual or four-speed Shiftronic automatic transmission for manual control of gear changes can be selected with the smaller V-6 while the larger 3.3-liter comes only with a new five-speed Shiftronic automatic. The optional all-wheel-drive system features a driver-selectable "lock" mode that  routes engine power in a 50-50 split between the front and rear wheels. All models get front-seat/side-impact airbags and full-row curtain airbags, in addition to anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, stability control and active headrests to reduce whiplash injuries. The optional third-row seat is split 50/50 and can be folded flat like the 60/40-split second-row seat. Total cargo volume is 78.2 cubic feet.
