Soon to be manufactured in the United States at Hyundai's new plant in Montgomery, Ala., the Santa Fe remains a tastefully designed and well-executed small car-based SUV. It performs adequately, handles reasonably well and provides decent comfort and value, with a choice of front- or all-wheel drive and offers standard side-impact airbags. The vehicle comes standard with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 138-horsepower with and a five-speed manual transmission; a 173-horsepower 2.7-liter V-6 engine and four-speed Shiftronic automatic that provides manual gear changes are optional. Meanwhile, the GLS 3.5L and LX 3.5L versions include a 173-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 that can handle a full load of passengers with power to spare. Four-wheel disc bakes, front side airbags, air conditioning, power locks, mirrors and windows, a CD stereo, and alloy wheels are all standard.
