The front-drive compact Elantra received styling updates last year that included a revised hood, grille, bumpers and head/taillamps, along with an updated instrument panel. The car also came newly powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder powerplant with variable valve timing that offers 132 horsepower in the base GS version and 138 in its sporty GT versions. It remains mainly status quo for 2005. The Elantra is a decent-performing small car that offers attractive styling, good power, ample features, a roomy interior and a generous warranty, in part to help overcome its past reliability issues. Available as either a sedan or four-door hatchback, the car's standard features include air conditioning and power locks, mirrors and windows. The GT adds a CD stereo, cruise control, fog lights, keyless entry, leather seats, and alloy wheels.
