It takes a modern-day Moses to part traffic in Times Square, but that’s what happened when Arnold Schwarzenegger hit the Big Apple to kick off the annual New York Auto Show. The Terminator lent some muscle for the preview of the new Hummer H2 Sport-Utility Truck, an orange behemoth loaded with an assortment of high-tech gear and luxury options. This year’s show was a truck-lover’s delight. Mercedes-Benz debuted the eagerly awaited G-Class, an easier-to-pronounce version of its top-end Gelaendewagen, weighing in at nearly $73,000. Then there’s the Freelander, Land Rover’s first all-new product in seven years. The British marque also showed off a special version of its Discovery SUV built for videogame heroine Lara Croft in her upcoming movie debut. Land Rover plans to build a dozen or so for real-life buyers, but because the Tomb Raider Discovery won’t meet U.S. safety standards, it won’t make it over to the States.
