Yukon/XL

GMC's large and larger full-size sport-utility vehicles continue for 2006, with revised versions expected to debut in 2006 as a 2007 model. A 275-horsepower 4.8-liter comes standard on the base Yukon, with a larger 290-hp 5.3-liter V-8 that provides much-greater low-end torque optional. The 5.3 is standard on the XL, with a 300-hp 6.0-liter V-8 optional on 1500 models; the 2500 can be fitted with an available 340-hp 8.1-liter V-8 that can move mountains of dirt with its 455-lb-ft of torque. The standard four-speed automatic gearbox comes with a tow/haul function. Four-wheel-drive models get GM's Autotrac system that can be permanently left in full-time 4WD mode. StabiliTrak yaw control is included across the line for added stability over a wide range of conditions, and its standard anti-lock brakes include a "Hydroboost" function for improved stopping abilities. For 2006, the Yukon may be equipped with a flex-fuel version of the 5.3-liter V-8 powerplant, which can operate on fuel that contains up to 85 percent ethanol. Also for 2006, a tire pressure monitoring system becomes standard on all models, with power-adjustable pedals and extendable, power-adjustable camper mirrors newly offered as options.
