This crossover version of the Five Hundred sedan can carry as many as seven passengers in three rows of standard theater-style seating. For 2007, the Freestyle is updated with standard front-seat, side-impact airbags and full-row curtain airbags, with 18-inch rims standard on Limited models and two new exterior colors — Alloy Clearcoat Metallic and Dune Pearl Clearcoat Metallic. Both rear rows of seats, along with the front passenger’s seat, can fold flat for added cargo carrying flexibility. The Freestyle comes standard with a 3.0-liter V-6 engine that’s rated at 200 horsepower mated to a continuously variable transmission. The Freestyle shares its available all-wheel-drive system with the Volvo XC90. It uses an electro-hydraulic limited-slip coupling that can transfer virtually all of the engine’s power to the rear wheels whenever the front wheels slip. The Freestyle is offered in SEL and Limited editions, with standard features on the SEL including 17-inch wheels, automatic headlamps, chrome grille surround, heated exterior mirrors, fog lamps, an AM/FM audio system with six-disc, in-dash CD changer, leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel with remote audio controls, message center with electronic compass, and exterior perimeter lighting. Limited models add 18-inch wheels, an Audiophile premium audio system with six-disc CD changer and subwoofer, cargo net, dual-zone climate control, and wood-grain interior appliqués. Options include power adjustable pedals, DVD navigation, and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system.
