Escape

A gas/electric hybrid-powered Escape was introduced last year and continues to be in demand for its performance and fuel economy. Power comes from a four-cylinder gasoline engine and electric motor that works in tandem with an electronically controlled continuously variable automatic transmission. It affords V-6 power with the fuel economy of a four-cylinder engine, and excels in that regard in stop-and-go urban motoring. Meanwhile, the base and XLT versions come powered by a 2.3-liter four-cylinder powerplant that produces 153 horsepower; optional on the XLT, and included with the XLT Sport, and Limited versions is a 200-hp 3.0-liter V-6. Either can be mated to a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox, and all-wheel drive is available across the line. A Safety Canopy system designed to protect occupants in case of a rollover is available, along with side-impact airbags, navigation system, power moonroof, and a high-power MACH audio array with CD changer. For 2006, two new paint colors, Titanium Green Clearcoat Metallic and Blazing Copper Clearcoat Metallic, have been added to the palette. Meanwhile, the Hybrid offers a new Premium Package that includes leather-trimmed seats, and a host of features. The Hybrid is also offered in a new exterior color, Black Clearcoat Metallic.
