Dodge's boldly styled, full-size pickup line comes in light-duty 1500, and heavy-duty 2500 and 3500 versions, with a choice of regular and four-door Quad Cab body styles. New for 2006 are stretched four-door Mega Cab models that boast the largest pickup passenger compartments available in the market. At 111 inches long, the new cab affords both plenty of room to seat six adult passengers in comfort, and includes the first reclining rear seats available in a pickup. What's more there's as much as 7.6 cubic feet of covered storage behind the rear seats, with a 24.9 square-foot flat load floor; the rear seats also split-fold and move forward for added cargo flexibility. Light-duty Rams come standard with a 215-horsepower 3.7-liter V-6 engine and can be alternatively fitted with a 4.7-liter V-8 that produces 235 horses and 300 lb-ft of torque. Heavy-duty models offer a choice of a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 gasoline engine or a 5.9-liter Cummins turbodiesel V-8 that provides a stump-pulling 460 lb-ft of torque. For 2006, the HEMI offers a Multi-Displacement System that shuts down half the cylinders when conditions warrant to save fuel. Across the line, an all-new frame, suspension, and body mounts are said to improve ride, handling, and quietness, while there's a new exterior fascia, grille, headlamps, fenders and wheels outside, and a redesigned instrument panel, center console, and seats inside. A new TRX4 Off-Road model is added to the line for 2006 that features 17-inch wheels and off-road tires, painted monotube shocks, tow hooks, skid plates, and a limited-slip differential. A high-performance Ram SRT-10 edition comes packed with a 500-horsepower version of the 8.3-liter V-10 engine that's also found in the Viper sports coupe . Power adjustable pedals, a navigation system, and DVD entertainment array are newly added to the options list for 2006.
