Magnum

Sharing platforms and powertrains with the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger sedans, the Magnum strikes an inimitable pose with its wide track and sharply tapered roofline. A new top SRT8 model debuts for 2006 that slips station wagon performance into high gear with its 425-horsepower high-output 6.1-liter HEMI V-8 engine. Mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox with manual-shift capability, the SRT-8 can jump from 0-to-60 mph in around five seconds. Suspension upgrades and larger 20-inch wheels and tires are also included. Elsewhere in the line, a fairly lackluster 190-horsepower 2.7-liter V-6 engine and four-speed automatic transmission remains the standard powertrain, while the mid-level SXT offers available all-wheel-drive includes a more powerful 250-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6, and adds features like four-wheel anti-lock brakes with brake assist, and traction- and stability control. The R/T model is likewise available with AWD and packs a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 that generates 340 horsepower and is paired with a five-speed automatic gearbox. For 2006 it includes a standard tire-pressure monitor. A backseat DVD system is newly offered for '06 on the SXT and R/T that's mounted rearward onto the front center console and features a seven-inch LCD display.
