Magnum

Not only is the Magnum the first new Dodge station wagon to be built in decades, it's the first rear-drive and V-8-powered model from the automaker in generations. Sharing platforms and powertrains with the Chrysler 300 sedan, the Magnum offers what could be described as a menacing stance with a wide track and sharply tapered profile. It's being sold as a more-manageable alternative to truck-based sport-utility wagons, with all-wheel-drive versions being added to the line by late 2004. The base SE model is powered by a 190-horsepower 2.7-liter V-6 and includes a four-speed automatic gearbox. The next step up is the SXT, which includes a more-powerful 250-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6, and adds items like four-wheel anti-lock brakes with brake assist, traction- and stability control, a power driver's seat and aluminum wheels. Choose the top R/T model if you want to answer affirmatively should anyone ask "that thing got a HEMI in it?" This 5.7-liter V-8 generates a generous 340 horsepower and is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. A "Multi-Displacement System" selectively deactivates four of the V-8's cylinders under low-to-moderate throttle to boost fuel economy. Also included are 18-inch wheels and tires, upgraded exhaust and brakes, leather seats and a premium Boston Acoustic audio system. Options range from side-curtain airbags, to Sirius satellite radio, a navigation system, power adjustable pedals, and a hands-free connection for Bluetooth-enabled phones.
