The second generation of the Durango was introduced last year as a slightly larger, more powerful, and more expressively styled mid-size sport-utility vehicle. It accommodates five passengers in its base version and seven riders in SLT and Limited trim, by virtue of those models' third-row seating. A 210-horsepower V-6 engine now powers 2WD base and SLT models, while a 4.7-liter V-8 that generates 235 horsepower is included elsewhere in the line. The available HEMI 5.7-liter V-8 adds oomph with its 345 horsepower and 375 lb-ft of torque. A four-speed automatic transmission is standard, while a five-speed version is included with 4WD and Limited models. Available features include side curtain-type airbags that are designed to protect occupants in all three rows of seats, plus a rear DVD entertainment system. Only minor alterations are expected for 2005.

A much bigger, bolder and broader design gets Dodge into the full-size SUV business, finally.
