Sharing platforms and powertrains with the Mercedes-Benz SLK, the low-slung and muscular-looking Crossfire is newly offered in a soft-top convertible version for 2005, along with the two-seat hardtop coupe that debuted last year. Power comes from a 215-horsepower V-6 engine that comes mated to either a standard six-speed manual gearbox or available five-speed automatic with manual-shift abilities. Handling is crisp around the curves, yet the ride remains fairly pliant over all but the roughest roads. A new-for-2005 high-performance SRT-6 model offers a higher-output supercharged engine, among other various upgrades, and comes in a new body color, Aero Blue. Inside, the Crossfire's twin-cockpit interior is finished with assorted metallic accents and features two-tone heated leather power seats and a 240-watt Infinity audio system with dual subwoofers. All-speed traction control and an Electronic Stability Program borrowed from Mercedes-Benz are both standard.
