The 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is like a bodybuilder in a tuxedo. You can visually discriminate between a light-duty Silverado 1500 from its more capable brethren, thanks to the HD's raised hood and divergent grille design. While different, compared to the Ford Super Duty, the Chevy looks tame.

According to Cars.com, the Chevy Silverado HD 1500 "underwent a major redesign for 2007, and not a whole lot has changed for 2008...The most obvious difference in the new Silverado is a departure from the eyebrow-looking headlights of the previous model and a move toward more conventional stacked headlights flanking an enormous grille." Kelley Blue Book drapes it in feminine terms, adding, "'Prettied up' might be a kiss-of-death descriptive for a heavy-duty pickup, but it will work for the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD." Car and Driver describes it as "beefed up," adding "GM's Heavy Duty pickups (Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD) resemble their half-ton kin." Edmunds reports it’s “available in three body styles: regular cab, extended cab and crew cab.”

The two available interiors for the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD are similar to those in the light-duty models, and they're comfortable and practical. The interior of the new Chevy Silverado HD has "less-plasticky plastics and lower shine," according to Cars.com, which adds that the "mouse-fur liner has been replaced by classier, woven fabric." It's what Edmunds calls one of the Chevrolet Silverado HD 2008's "radically improved interiors." ConsumerGuide notes that when compared to higher-level Chevrolet Silverado HD 2008 trims, "even the basic Work Truck trim has a quality look and feel despite abundant hard plastic."

Conclusion

The 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is a workhorse that looks less so outside, more so inside.

Other Choices:

The Ford vs. Chevy wars continue to rage in the heavy-duty segment of the pickup truck market. An all-new Ford Super Duty was introduced for the 2008 model year, and it is a heck of a truck, complete with a revised Power Stroke diesel. That engine isn't a true "clean" diesel yet, but will be soon. There's no mistaking the Super Duty's style, which is certainly more distinctive than the Silverado HD's. Features like the optional in-tailgate stepladder are also innovative and go unanswered by Chevy.
