For 2005, Chevrolet's largest front-drive sedan offers the latest generation of GM's OnStar system that comes with upgraded hands-free voice recognition capabilities. Also on hand are new 17-inch diamond-cut chrome wheels and revised badging. Its new bodyside moldings are made from 100-percent recyclable "nanocomposites," a new material that's said to be lighter and more durable with a higher-quality finish. Otherwise, the Impala continues to seat six adult passengers in relative comfort, and comes powered by a standard 180-horsepower 3.4-liter V-6 engine. Four-wheel disc brakes, dual-zone air conditioning, power locks, mirrors, and windows, automatic headlamps, and a tilt steering wheel are included. The LS adds a 200-hp 3.8-liter V-6, along with anti-lock brakes, traction control, and added amenities. The top SS version includes a 220-hp supercharged 3.8-liter V-6, along with more-aggressive styling cues and suspension upgrades. All versions include a four-speed automatic gearbox.
