New for 2006, the HHR is a tall wagon that comes wrapped in retro-themed exterior styling that's inspired by both the classic 1949 Suburban and the current SSR pickup. Sharing platforms with the Cobalt sedan and coupe, the 2007 HHR (it stands for High Heritage Roof) comes powered in its base form by a 143-horsepower 2.2-liter in-line four engine, with a 2.4-liter version available on higher trim levels that nets 172 horses. Both engines drive the front wheels via either a standard five-speed manual gearbox or an optional four-speed automatic; the latter includes a remote-start feature. A sport suspension is included on the top LT model for more responsive handling. A flexible cargo management system includes flat-folding rear and front passenger seatbacks, various storage bins, and a height-adjustable cargo panel. An LT Panel version is intended for use as a city delivery vehicle.
