Cadillac's sporty two-seat convertible flagship car is based on the venerable Chevrolet Corvette, though it comes with its own sharp-edged styling, exclusive powertrains, and a power retractable hardtop. Ample power comes from a 320-horsepower version of Cadillac's 4.6-liter "Northstar" V-8 engine (mated to a five-speed automatic transmission), with 0-to-60 mph times clocking in at around six seconds. Not fast enough? The XLR-V version debuts for 2006 and it packs a 469-horsepower supercharged 4.4-liter dual overhead-cam Northstar V-8 engine and can reach 60 mph in less than five seconds. Also included is a six-speed automatic transmission with a "Driver Shift Control" function for quasi-manual operation, along with various suspension, tire, and braking upgrades. Included across the line are such chassis control systems as StabiliTrak stability control, Magnasteer power steering and Magnetic Ride Control, and a full range of high-tech features. Adaptive headlamps that can help illuminate the road around corners are new for 2006, as is a hidden antenna for the standard XM Satellite Radio. A revised interior center stack includes more wood detail, and Gold Mist and Infrared exterior paint colors replace Satin Nickel and Crimson Pearl.
