SRX

Introduced last year, this sharply styled mid-size crossover sport-utility vehicle is built off the same "Sigma" platform as the rear-drive CTS and STS sports sedans, which gives it a sportier feel than most of its competitors. Handling is further enhanced by a fully independent suspension, the longest wheelbase in its class, a nearly 50/50 front-to-rear weight distribution, and a low center of gravity. The base engine is an aluminum double overhead cam 3.6-liter V-6 that produces 260 horsepower, while a 315-horsepower 4.6-liter version of Cadillac's Northstar V-8 is also available. GM's StabiliTrak electronic stability system comes standard, and the Magnetic Ride Control system that's otherwise found in the XLR roadster is optional. The SRX's interior is roomy, attractive, and functional, and can hold as many as seven passengers with the optional power-folding third-row seat. Updates for 2005 include a revised and chrome-ringed instrument cluster, darker privacy glass, and a standard navigation system on the V-8 version (it's otherwise optional with the V-6). In addition, the V-6 model will offer an enhanced towing capacity of up to 4250 pounds at mid-year.
