The dramatically styled, mid-size rear-drive Cadillac comes powered in its base model by a new 210-horsepower, 2.8-liter all-aluminum V-6 with variable valve timing that's teamed with a standard six-speed Aisin manual gearbox. A five-speed automatic transmission is optional, and for 2006 it includes Driver Shift Control across the line; it's also been recalibrated for more precise shifter feel and more responsive input. For 2006, the top CTS-V version receives a new engine, a 6.0-liter V-8 that produces 400 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque. It also adds a Tremec six-speed manual transmission (an automatic is not available here), StabiliTrak stability control, performance-tuned suspension, and other upgrades. 0-to-60 mph times for the CTS-V clock in at 4.6 seconds. For 2006 the CTS becomes the first GM vehicle to offer XM NavTraffic, the nation's first satellite traffic information service for vehicle navigation systems that provides congestion and construction data on a real-time basis for select cities. Also, a new 18-inch Sport Performance Package and 18-inch Sport Appearance Package with performance tires and polished nine-spoke wheels are offered that also include revised brakes and suspension tuning.
