This new top-performing version of the A4 family packs a punch with a 4.2-liter direct-injection V-8 engine that generates 414 horsepower. This model can reach 60 mph in about 4.8 seconds and features more extensive use of aluminum construction than the rest of the A4 line as a weight-saving measure, particularly in the suspension and hood. Also on hand to lessen the load are lightweight sports seats with inflatable side bolsters. The RS4 has a very firm suspension with a lower stance and wider track than the rest of the line. Eighteen-inch wheels and performance tires are fitted at the front, with 19-inch rims and rubber installed at the rear. An aggressively calibrated version of Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system comes standard, and affords crisper cornering abilities by managing front/rear torque more liberally. Dynamic Ride Control is included for maximum stability and grip around the corners. Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, front-seat side-impact and side-curtain airbags come standard. A Premium Package is available and includes DVD navigation, Bose premium audio with six-disc CD changer, HomeLink, auto dimming exterior and interior mirror, digital compass interior mirror, memory for mirrors and driver’s seat positions, Bluetooth phone preparation, Sirius satellite radio, heated rear seats, and power rear and manual side sunshades.
