The A4 is offered in both sedan an Avant wagon forms — with either front-wheel or quattro all-wheel-drive. It comes powered by a choice of four and six-cylinder engines. Standard is a 2.0-liter turbocharged direct-injection in-line four that generates 200-horsepower; the optional 3.2-liter V-6 is borrowed from the larger A6 and likewise uses direct injection to produce 255 horses — a bump of 20 horsepower vs. last year’s version. The four-cylinder can be mated to either a six-speed manual or Multitronic continuously variable (CVT) automatic transmission in the sedan version; the wagon and all V-6 models offer a choice of the six-speed manual or a conventional six-speed automatic gearbox. For 2007, the Symphony audio system gets MP3 capability — and cassette players are dropped. Heated front seats are now available as a stand-alone option on V-6/Quattro models — but have been discontinued for FWD/2.0T models. The 3.2 sedan and Quattro get a standard sunroof (it was formerly an option) and all automatic-equipped A4s get F1-style shift paddles on the steering wheel. Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, the latest version of Audi’s Electronic Stabilization Program, traction control, and front-seat side-impact and side-curtain airbags all come standard, along with a tilt/telescoping steering wheel. Options include adaptive high-intensity discharge headlamps and a navigation system with Audi’s Multi-Media Interface.
