A4

Introduced in early 2005, Audi's redesigned A4 sedan and Avant wagon are larger than the versions they replaced, with added style, luxury, and performance. An uncluttered exterior is capped by the single-frame grille that first adorned last year's A6. Available with either front-wheel or quattro all-wheel-drive, the A4 comes powered by a choice of four and six-cylinder engines. Standard is a new 2.0-liter turbocharged direct-injection in-line four that generates 200-horsepower, while the available 3.2-liter V-6 is borrowed from the larger A6 and likewise uses direct injection to produce 225 horses. The four-cylinder can be mated to either a six-speed manual or Multitronic continuously variable automatic transmission in the sedan version, while the wagon and all V-6 models offer a choice of the six-speed manual or a conventional six-speed automatic gearbox. Its road-holding suspension consists of a four-link front array and a sophisticated self-tracking trapezoidal-link design at the rear. Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, the latest version of Audi's Electronic Stabilization Program, traction control, and front-side and side-curtain airbags all come standard, along with power accessories, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and alloy wheels, among other features. Options include pivoting high-intensity discharge headlamps and a navigation system with Audi's Multi-Media Interface.
